Consequences: A novel of unlikely American heroesConsequences: A novel of unlikely American heroes by Dacus Tara
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Katie, Taylor and Leon are three young kids whose lives have all been shaped in some form or another by the senseless gun violence around them. They all live in Suisun Valley, close to prosperous Napa Valley and their community tries to provide a good foundation of support services for those in needs such as the Police Activities League. Each of these kids takes on the gun violence (and the associations that are pro-gun and thus enable the flow of guns), in their own personal ways. Will it ever be enough? Will this generation or even the next ever be truly free from the violence that has rocked their lives? Can a balance be struck?
A thought-provoking tale of a community and how the gun violence influences their lives as a whole and as individuals. The book was well written and thought out. There is no clear preference here, every voice gets their own say in the story, but it does let you see the greater impact on a community beyond what we see in the media.
