The Coward of GrimsbyThe Coward of Grimsby by Eric Daniel Ryan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Aristocrat Braddock gets sucked in by the Tale of the sunken and forgotten Spanish gold, told to him by fisherman DuFont. Striking out to find this ship and gold becomes Braddock’s newest mission. Countless tragedies befall him and the crew along the way, but only he makes it back. Will he be able to convince others if his innocence?
Short, yet full of adventure, this was certainly a good book to read. The story was compelling and interesting and not anything I have read before. The pacing was quick and the plot sound. Great conclusion in the end.

Secluded: A paranormal romance (Pure Book 1)Secluded: A paranormal romance by Petra Abernathy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A tale of a young lady who is a part of a network of priestesses under the control of greedy lords with an iron grip. In her escape she learns about the history of her kind, other magical creatures and her own heritage, all the while attempting to stay out of the lords hands.
Greta was a good main character in that she had enough independence, curiosity and willpower to buck the system. She places her trust in 4 magical men who end up loving her dearly. There is a cliffhanger at the end. Well written and easy to follow along.

The Dancing Alphabet Letters: Literacy on the Move: Book 4The Dancing Alphabet Letters: Literacy on the Move: Book 4 by Arlene N Cohen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The quest to teach our kids to read can be pretty stressful, especially when the children feel like it becomes a chore. One thing that this author really brought forward, is the variety of ways that learning can be incorporated into play, and in this book specifically movement of dance and more. There are too many examples to list here, but the illustrations make this a easy book to follow, even those of us with two left feet. I think that this is a great book to add to any family’s library.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

For years the effects of Automation have been studied, however, this book brings us thoughts in the form of essays by leading thinkers in the industry who share their knowledge and can give their opinions on what will be “big” in the upcoming year.
I found this to be very interesting. The topic is always welcome, and the people who head up the different essays were well versed in their respective fields. I think that this will be an interesting book to revisit and see how much of it truly came to be.

Simon SaysSimon Says by William Poe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Simon is a troubled man who has a dark past. This is the first of a series of books that chronicle his journey of self-discovery. Showcasing his ups and especially his downs, his flirting with many types of drugs and his self-destructive behavior, as he attempts to deal with his emotional trauma from his years with the Unification Church.
This was a deep book; it is not lighthearted as it shouldn’t be. The topic of self-identity and the issues this can cause you is handled very well. I highly recommend getting all three books in this series.

Northwoods Pulp ReloadedNorthwoods Pulp Reloaded by T.K. O'Neill
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3 short stories are here to thrill you in this book. Drug use, gambling, money laundering, bank robbing, you name it, the author has put it in here. The characters are loud and out there, some more than others, but the stories here certainly bring a good time and exciting venues that will leave you feeling the adrenaline rush of bad deeds.
Good writing and a compelling plot in each of the stories makes this an enjoyable book. Action crime and bad guys are all here, and the bad guys are the main characters.

Janette flees to Paris from her overbearing Mother in Boston, and she stumbles into down on his luck Gerard. He sees it as a way to distract him from his miseries that are soon coming to collect and the two begin a whirlwind romance, full of deceit, gambling, broken trust and lust.
The two are quite a pair, they both feed off of each other’s vice’s and Gerard opens Jannette’s world to the darker sides of life. The writing was a little clunky, some of the phrases used by Gerard made me laugh out loud. The writing

Love in the Time of Wormholes (Ignisar, #1)Love in the Time of Wormholes by Jess K. Hardy
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Sunny is a Hospitality hostess on board the ship and she ensures that every customer there has the most splendid time they can. She fixes any problems and works with her team to create unforgettable adventures in space. When a new team member turns out to be a one night stand from her past, Sunny is off balance and unsure.
I didn't like Sunny, she was so hung up on Freddie that she did not come across as a capable Hostess with this amazing reputation. I also found her a bit to petulant as a character, I truly enjoyed Freddie more. The races and Sci-Fi portions were interesting and did work to flesh out the story. My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What do you do, when you find evidence that a convicted killer wasn’t actually the killer? With one still on the loose, FBI agent Eva Thomas isn’t believed when she informs her superiors, and she struggles to find support when she sets out to go after the true killer of mom Arlene Wood.
I loved that Eva was so dogged in the face of adversity and that she was able to show her balance of work and private life. Not many books out there have heroines who are mothers, so this was a welcome change, and the author made a good choice of characters.

The Pebble ChampionThe Pebble Champion by Alan David Pritchard
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Christopher loses his mom, and the event proves to be very traumatic for him. While the people surrounding him wish him well and try to help, he truly only feels some semblance of peace when he skips stones across the lake. This sets up a hauntingly beautiful story about loss, grief, acceptance, and newfound love.
While this book is very emotional, it is so very well written that you will not even notice the pages flying by until you reach the end. I think this will be one of those books that stick with me for a while.

Double DownDouble Down by C J AXLEROD
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Hollywood actor is the unfortunate victim of an attack and his life is forever changed. Alex, even though he hires a team of security to protect him, learns through more events, that he can truly only ever rely upon himself and he needs to take things into his own hands if he wants to survive what’s coming. The use of a body double is used often in literature and in movies, but the author has brought the concept to life in his vivid description of scenes. You can almost hear the creepy music being piped in as Alex is facing off with Aaron. A great book!

A small town in New England is not the place where you might think to find a string of gruesome murders, but here we are. The term serial killer bandied about and the local police are at their wits end even as they cling to their pride and resist calls for the FBI to come. Is the killer linked to the local psychiatrist hospital? Or something even more sinister? This book, a thriller with hair pin turns of the plot was really intriguing and well done. I liked Val and her resilience in the face of adversity. A great book!

In here the Author showcases her years of experience working with those in need by giving us discussion prompts, affirmations and short anecdotes, meant to showcase the spirit of the human soul. The book has Christian undertones as seen in many of the affirmations, though even someone of a different faith, or no faith can still use the book and get some good thoughts form it.

The Andean Cross: A NovelThe Andean Cross: A Novel by Lawrence Clayton

A tale for the ages, this book plays on the idea of what if. What if the Americas weren’t discovered by the Spanish (or Vikings, or other culture), but rather by Jesus and his Apostles, shipwrecks, months at sea, traversing rough country sides all the while, exploring the ideas and teachings of Christianity which make this book feel richer and more fulfilling than most.
This was an interesting book and it was intriguing, while I do not subscribe to the authors beliefs, I viewed this as an entertaining piece of fiction and enjoyed the story.

How I Found My Superpowers: An Introduction to the Spirit WorldHow I Found My Superpowers: An Introduction to the Spirit World by Katharine Branham

This book is a memoir of the author’s life as a Physic. She details the rise of her powers, how she “channels” different energies, how she receives warnings in advance of events and how she uses this information to help her clients. She also goes into some detail in regard to the Psychic telephone industry and certain practices she disagrees with.
I was more interested in the industry information section of this book, than in anything else. It read like a friend telling me about all these amazing things that happened to her, but there wasn’t really anything interesting about it all. Others might get more out of this than I did.

In a world of ever consuming healthcare, be it physically or financially, a way out of the system should be something everyone strives for. The author gives us a book that sets out chapter by chapter, a guideline of common problems and helpful solutions you can undertake.

A scientist pens a letter to his niece, one that will kickstart a murderous spree. FBI Agent Karen Richmond and Brad Parker return in the third book of the series to take on this case. The author spins another murder mystery heavily set in the medical genre. The duo is able to bring back the banter and high level of intelligence that drew you I in the first 2 books, but I felt like the story followed the same formula and was hoping for something new. Other than that, it was still a good book and still worth reading.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is centered around a three-step formula (simplified it is See, Stop and Shift), as well as an emergency list. By using these, the author hopes you will be able to find lasting happiness and peace. What I found most promising in the book is that it does not require anything form you other than a little time. This inclusivity is well suited to the authors promise. I really liked that the author was so honest though the topic might want someone to sugarcoat the advice. I also liked the thoughts on the emergency list, I think they may make it more effective.

Bye Bye Bully: a bully story gone right!Bye Bye Bully: a bully story gone right! by Isabel M. PeƱa
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book deals with bullying and centers on two young girls who are on opposite sides of this topic. Amanda, a victim and Mildred, a bully are both thrown into an unusual situation when Mildred loses her memories after being hit with a rock. Amanda and Mildred strike up an unlikely friendship after and learn about each other’s lives in a new way.
I liked the story for my daughter who is just entering that age where bullying is going to be a problem. This helps her visualize some situations and it also presents her with a view of looking deeper into a person’s reasons for their actions. Overall a good book for younger kids.

Taming the WishTaming the Wish by Sava Buncic
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Based on the cryptic synopsis, I was expecting a postapocalyptic type of novel. What we got was more a thriller with an authoritarian twist on a global level. Petar, is a clinical doctor who routinely upsets his superiors with his inquisitive nature and his attention to detail. Moved into the scientific field, Petar finds a treatment for obesity, controlling the wish as he calls it and this sets him into the sights of dangerous forces.
While the story itself was interesting, Petar was very egotistical, absent minded and so detail oriented, that the pacing of this story moved very slowly. He was perpetually up against everyone else and he seemed a very selfish character. I also didn’t quite understand the ending, so that left me feeling a little dissatisfied

Sammy from the first book opens his door and faces an assassin hired by her father to finish Sammy off once and for all. The two join forces though and set out to save a child all the while staving off another assassin bent on killing the both of them.
This book was better than the first one, a bit more serious and focused than the last. Thus, I enjoyed it more and am glad I picked it up. The writing and the plot are good, and Sammy is a more likeable character now that he is focused on one woman and Angelica is certainly a match for Sammy’s personality.

Allison is living a pampered life full of luxury that comes crashing down with embezzlement charges that are levied against her husband. Allison is thrust into a much more rural lifestyle where she meets a handsome stranger and must decide where she wants to take her life.

James Sale nearly dies when he is a patient of the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Utilizing the poetic writing style by Dante, James Sale guides us through his experience with an artful flair. At times disturbed and others triumphant, this book certainly will be interesting to read.
While the story was certainly interesting, the style was reminiscent of a stage play for me. I am ok with poems and this one was ok but not something I’ll be re-reading again.

VirgilVirgil by Samuel Alexander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Virgil’s life has been a trail by fire. He has suffered many abuses and traumas that haunt him to this day. The book is set up as a conversation he has with you as you then dive with him into the memories of his past and explore the formative events in his life.
This was a very dark book, and even though there was some light, the detailed descriptions of the trauma will be hard for certain readers. You can use this book as a story of one’s journey to acceptance and a fight for a normal life. Well worth the read if you dare.
